Native Perennial Keystone deciduous mound shape shrub

Pink steeple like blooms: July, August , September Grows 2-4ft tall and slightly wider

 bright pink blooms, yellow fall foliage, orange-red bark, make Steeplebush a lovely shrub for 4 season interest.

Prefers: Full to part sun with wet- medium wet soil

Benefits:  Butterflies, moths, bees, wasps and beetles. Host plant to :  New England Buck Moth and Columbia Silk Moth (Hyalophora columbia)

Birds love the seeds and insects that are attracted to it. Hummingbirds for the nectar.

Plant Spacing: 1-3 feet

When germinating from seed (C60) the seeds need 60 days of cold stratification.  Best to plant fresh seeds in the fall in the garden.  When grown from seed it takes about 4 years to reach maturity.  Very slow growth the first 2 years. 

I harvested seeds fall 2025 from shrub in my garden and the seeds have been sown on 11/28/25 so these will not be available for a couple of years.  May have suckers from  the shrub on my property in spring 2026.

The slow spread of its rhizomatous roots (suckers) assist in holding retention pond embankments and rivers edges in place,
