Cardinal Flower / Red lobelia- Lobelia cardinalis

Native to all of New England States, Short lived perennial(2-3 years) although it readily self seeds.  It can grow up to 4ft tall, with stunning scarlet red blooms July-September.  May not bloom its first year.  First Bloom in its second year. 

Prefers: Full to Part Sun, Wet to Med-Wet Soil    Works in a medium size container on a shady balcony.

Benefits: Hummingbirds, Bees, Butterflies, Moths are attracted to the flowers.  Some moths lay their eggs on the leaves as a host plant.
