Chives (Allium schoenoprasum)
Couldn't load pickup availability
A culinary herb with a mild, onion-like flavor, part of the onion family (Allium). Commonly used to flavor salads, soups, and other dishes. The striking purple flower (appear late spring-summer) is also edible although very aromatic and has a slightly sweet flavor due to its nectar. Ecologically grown, no pesticides, herbicides, no synthetic fertilizers, etc.
These plants came from a mother plant that has been in my garden for over 12 years.
Prefers: Full Sun to Part Sun, with fertile, medium, well-drained soil.
Benefits: Helps deter mammals who may be looking to snack on your other plants. Chive flower nectar attracts many insects, including butterflies, honey bees and bumblebees.
