Introduced to MA although non native (not listed as invasive)
This short-lived Perennial grows up to 12: and has a squirrel-tail tufted end. Propagates through seeds.
Prefers: Full Sun and cool soil of any type that is medium moist - dry. Its growing season is when it is cool spring & fall.
Grasshoppers and certain types of larvae feed on the grass. While the grass is young, it may be eaten by livestock. However, as the plant matures, the seedheads become dry and sharp and can cause injury to grazing animals so they generally leave it alone. The seeds can stick to animal fur and human clothing to hitch a ride and then self-propagate in new areas.
