Joe Pye Weed - Eutrochium maculatum

Native Perennial is a very tall plant, up to 5- 6 feet tall that has pinkish-lavender blooms from July-September.  The strong eye catching stems that are either purple or with purple spots rarely need to be staked. 

Prefers: Full to almost-full sun, rich, moist acidic soils (it likes wet feet)

It will spread easily so should be planted with caution in small landscape situations. 

Benefits: attracts birds(Hummingbirds) and many of species of butterflies(Monarch, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Black Swallowtail, Painted Lady, Red Admiral, Red-spotted Purple, Great Spangled Fritillary, and various Skipper species)
