Native to all New England States, Perennial (short lived, although self seeds well, may not bloom the first year) it is an early spring bloomer April-June (dead head to extend bloom and prevent self seeding). The attractive foliage will mound and stay throughout the summer. With its coral red & cream yellow blooms it is breathtaking. One of my favorites. Self seeds well.
Prefers: Light Sun,, Part Sun/Shade, Medium Wet-Dry Soil with good drainage, Grows to 2' High (if soil is too wet it will shorten its lifespan). Works in a medium size container on a shady balcony.
Benefits: Attracts many pollinators-Hummingbirds(it blooms just in time for their spring arrival, as well as bees, and butterflies
Larval Host Plant: to the Columbine Dusky Wing
Companion Plants: Pussy Toes, Pennsylvania Sedge, Indian Grass
Provenance: Grown from seed purchased winter 24/25 from PMN. In July 2026 seeds harvested from those plants for next year.
