Bottle Gentian - Gentiana andrewsii

Native to MA,NH,CT,VT, RI - although rare in some counties (not native in Maine)

Perennial  that is very slow-growing  (can take 1 to 2 years to bloom), although long-lived, once established it needs minimal care.  It is a late season Blooms pale to bright purple add great color in August-October.  It grows to 2 ft tall.   Deer Resistant 

The closed flowers can only be pollinated by Insects like Bumblebees that are strong enough to pry open the flowers.   

Prefers: Full to Part Sun, Medium wet to medium dry soils, 

 Companion plants that are also late bloomers: Obedient Plant(non native), New England Aster
