Also known as Downy shadbush. This bush/tree is an early spring bloomer April-May with white downy blooms followed by berries in the summer and striking foliage in the fall. It is considered a keystone tree.
Loved by a large number of pollinators (92 species of caterpillars use this tree)
The berries are enjoyed by humans, other mammals and at least 40 different species of birds. The berries taste similar to blueberries.
