Commonly called Swamp Milkweed. Considered a Keystone Plant
Native to all New England States Grows to 4ft tall
Its rosy pink flowers bloom July-Sept and have a vanilla scent.
Prefers: Sun to Part Shade with moist wet soil (can tolerate average soil)
Special Value to Native Bees, Bumblebees and Honeybees
Nectar Source: Butterflies & hummingbirds.
Host Plant: Monarch and Queen butterfly the monarch will even lay eggs on the plant before it flowers. I had that happen this year. The caterpillar devoured the fresh young leaves then went through all its stages and flew away. The leaves grew back within 2 weeks. See pictures below
