Bird's Foot Violet - Viola pedata

Native(to all New England States) Perennial with Early spring(April-June) blooms are purple with orange centers and the leaves are shaped like bird's feet.  It is not like other violets and can easily be pushed out by weeds and other aggressive plants.  It grows to 3" high.

This plant self seeds easily.

Prefers:  Full to Part Sun, Medium - Dry well drained Soil

Benefits:

Larval host plants for the Coronis Fritillary, Edwards Fritillary, Great Spangled Fritillary, Mormon Fritillary and Variegated Fritillary Butterflies.
